A View of The Principal Deistical Writers , Vol. 2 of 2 Vols.

A View of the PRINCIPAL DEISTICAL WRITERS THAT HAVE Appeared in ENGLAND in the last and present CENTURY; WITH OBSERVATIONS AND SOME ACCOUNT of the Answers that have been published against them. In several LETTERS to a FRIEND. VOL. 2 of 2 Vols., by JOHN LELAND, D. D. This two volume set was published in 1757 and has the early print where the s looks much like an f, this makes it a bit hard to read at first, but one can move right along in a little while, it is kind of a game at first. This Work by a Christian minister of the Gospel was intended to state and refute the arguments of the better known Deist writers of the time. The Deists presented strong arguments against Christianity and the Christian Bible, and Rev. Leland, in presenting many of these early arguments of the Deists has done a great service by preserving many Deist works that may have otherwise been lost. It was not uncommon for a person, who agreed with the Deists, to write against them in a way that presented and supported the Deist arguments, and at the same time protected the writer's position and reputation as a Christian. I suspect that was the intention of John Leland in publishing this extensive Work. Remember that many of the American Founding Fathers were staunch Deists - Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Thomas Paine, and many others. If you want to know the real facts of History you must read the old History books, before religion became powerful enough to control what is permitted in our modern books, schools and Universities.
