Discourses on Government, Vol. 1

Treaties on Government by Algernon Sidney, 1622? - 7 December 1683, Vol. 1 of 3 Vols.
Sidney's Treaties on Government was read by the American Founding Fathers in their quest to build the best possible government. Treaties on Government was a private manuscript that was found in Sidney's home and led to his trial and cruel execution - he was hung, cut down before dead, his privates cut off and burned before his face, then his head was cut off. Sidney's ideas that the power of government stems from the people, and even royalty must honor the needs and demands of he people, was a new and dangerous idea in those times - dangerous to the King and the powers of the time. Treaties on Government is a must read for anyone interested in the development of Democratic governments.
